If you are a New York City couple starting to plan your wedding, one of the first things on your to-do list is capturing the perfect photos for your Save the Dates! Naturally, you might start searching for Central Park engagement locations. But if you’re seeing a bunch of recommendations for Bethesda Terrace and Bow Bridge and thinking, “That’s beautiful, but I really just want lush greenery and a quiet space!”—I am right there with you.


While those iconic spots are stunning, they can be incredibly busy. If you are leaning more toward a mix of lush, vibrant greenery and a touch of romantic architecture, without the audience of a hundred tourists, let me introduce you to my absolute favorite hidden gem: the Conservatory Garden.


Tucked away on the Upper East Side of the park near 105th Street, it's one of the few places in Central Park that still feels genuinely quiet. Formal hedged pathways, wrought iron gates, manicured gardens divided into three distinct sections — Italian, French, and English — and almost none of the foot traffic that fills the rest of the park. For couples who want something a little more intimate and cinematic, it's one of the best locations in New York City.


When Michael and Caitlin reached out to me for their engagement session, they had the exact same vision. They wanted something that felt timeless and elegant for their Save the Dates and wedding website, with beautiful lighting and zero crowds. The Conservatory Garden delivered on all fronts!

Tips for Conservatory Garden Photo Session



The garden is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Plan accordingly!

The best time to shoot is early morning to avoid any crowds and to get the best lighting. I recommend anytime between 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM.

The three sections of the garden feel different. The French garden in the north is more geometric with flatter foliage. The center holds a sculpture called Three Dancing Maidens. The central Italian garden is more formal and grand, which is great for wide angle shots. The English garden in the south feels more like a botanic garden, more lush and overgrown with a variety of flower.

My Approach: Candid & Storytelling-First



Every location shapes a session differently, and the Conservatory Garden brings out something I especially love: a natural sense of wandering. There's always something to look at, a path to follow, a corner to discover. That curiosity is exactly what I work with.


My job isn't to pose you. It's to guide you toward each other and then disappear into the background while you actually live the moment. The photos I'm after are the ones that happen in between: the laugh that catches you off guard, the way you reach for each other without thinking, the feeling between two people who are exactly where they want to be. That's what the garden makes possible. It's beautiful enough that you naturally soften into it, and intimate enough that those small, real moments have room to happen.
